" The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

Ray Bernard is a security consultant and writer who has provided pivotal direction and advice in the security and building automation industries for over 18 years.

Ray is also Executive Producer for the award-winning documentary film Colorblind.

Ray is a Physical Security Professional (PSP) , a designation awarded by the ASIS International, of which Ray is an active member. Ray sits on the educational committees both the Physical Security Council and the IT Security Council.

Ray has been involved in many noteworthy projects such as international airport security systems, nuclear disarmament security system integration, sports stadium security and multiple-tower high-rise security and building automation systems.

Ray writes for security, system integration and product development trade journals including Access Control & Systems Integration, Airport Business, Buildings, Corporate Security News, Engineered Systems, Graduating Engineer, Mass Transportation, Security Dealer, Security Management Practices and Security Technology & Design. Additionally, Ray Bernard is a highly-regarded technical reviewer for Microsoft Press books regarding project management and systems development.

Ray entered the engineering field in Detroit, Michigan, where he worked as an auto body designer and finally as a senior designer, after graduating from the Rankin School of Automotive Design. (Senior designers take the automobile clay models and design the individual automobile components such as hoods, fenders, door panels or interior trim such as dashboard panels and armrests.)

Ray is a co-inventor on several patents granted including a mechanism developed for the Lincoln Mark VII automobile.

Recognizing that computer aided design (CAD) would be the future of automotive engineering, Ray enrolled in the CAD program at the University of Detroit, where he excelled and helped to re-write portions of the curriculum to improve the balance between hands-on learning and textbook study.

After expanding his computer education to include early scientific and personal computers, Ray founded Ray Bernard Consulting and Design (RBCD) specifically to provide software product development services for manufacturing and product engineering.

Ray and RBCD moved to Glendale, California in 1983, and began to specialize in user interaction design and computer networking and communications technology.

In the late 1980's Ray pioneered several security and building controls system "firsts" currently in use by major security and automation system manufacturers.

Ray and the RBCD consultants began work on bridging the gap between the focus of typical engineering efforts and the operational needs and objectives of security and automation systems end users. Requests by end-users and system integrators for technology-related security consulting began to increase in the early 1990's and finally led to the establishment of Ray Bernard Consulting Services (RBCS) in 1998.

RBCS is a group of highly expert physical and IT security and building automation consultants with outstanding track records in their fields of expertise.

Ray Bernard continues to be a leading voice in the security and automation industries.

In addition to his ASIS membership, Ray is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the IEEE Computer Society, and the Information Systems Security Association.
